It loses 2 stars because it is not obvious that it has a top speed of 220 Mbps. That's the maximum you can get with the simplest configuration, with no features enabled that can reduce throughput. You can easily deduce from the most well-known product information that it can go up to 1Gbps, but that's the WAN port speed for your ISP. It doesn't matter as it means your LAN will never see more than 220Mbps. To be fair to PepLink, you can head over to the support forums on the site and find out, or dive into the detailed specifications for the Balance 20. I think others on Revain also thought they were getting 1Gbps based on the specs posted here. The online interface is also great and works straight away. I would buy this brand again but be sure to find the ACTUAL throughput. Notes: MacOS 10.15.6, MBP 16", tested multiple times using 1Gbps fiber connection to test 220Mbps limit. Same ethernet cables for both tests. SpeedTest with Ookla app on macOS. With a direct connection 930 Mbit/s (symmetric) Max. 220 Mbit/s PepLink.
