I bought this toner because it was about a quarter of the original HP price. Obviously the chip that controls it belongs to HP, so you'll have to remove the tiny chip from the old cartridge and stick it in the new one: without it you're dead in the water. Luckily, the seller provides clear instructions and the tools needed to do it. And you will find that without a new chip, the printer always shows a low toner level. You can still print with them, but you can no longer tell how much toner is left in the cartridges you replaced. Despite all of that, I'm still glad I saved about $300 on a four-color set.
