I wanted a set of 4 modern chairs on a budget under $300 so spent a lot of time looking at the few options available. Instead of Ikea chairs to sit and hold on, I chose these, which made me very nervous because my husband is quite tall and heavy, I'm not a handyman myself and we have two active children. .When they arrived I was pleasantly surprised at how strong and heavy the bases were. They say "wire" but they're definitely strong metal rods that won't bend or wobble. My husband had no problem putting them together. They sit comfortably for cozy meals and dry well, although the plastic surface is slightly textured (I like the texture; I find it looks better than a smooth, glossy surface). The leg pads are nice and seem to protect the floor well (we have a mat). I was worried they would look like first apartment or dorm furniture but they look great, well made and durable. They don't look proportional to the height of our old dining table. We're replacing it with a slightly shorter table anyway, so it worked out fine, but maybe measure your chairs first and remember you'll be sitting in an inch or so deep "bucket" with them. And they don't seem very tip-stable when empty - I don't think they'll tip over with the weight of a child or adult in them, but if you try to knock one off the table in front of you, you'll go in, just as you can tip back. Honestly, that's almost a plus for me because it teaches my family not to leave their coats on the backs of chairs in the dining room - it makes it more likely that the chair will end up on the floor and the coats will have to be collected. high!
