First they are accurate, strong and sharp. They fit snugly in the holes, which is a problem because they are very difficult to get out of the holes. I spent quite a bit of time and energy extracting them to proceed to the next step. However, they greatly improve the overall dowel installation process and allow you to get accurate alignment on the first try. Why do I say they are badly designed? The diameter is too close to the hole size. They should be a few thousandths of an inch smaller in diameter to make them easier to install and remove. OR they need a small notch on at least two sides to place a lifting lever. I had to use pliers and now all my little dowel centers are mangled after a little work.
