Not Impressed by Peltier Technology

We have a very small guest bathroom (approximately 220 cubic feet) with poor ventilation. The only way we've successfully dealt with indoor humidity is by either opening a window and using a fan to blow out that humid air, or a compressor dehumidifier (either an air conditioner or a standalone compressor dryer) too use. Since we live near the forest, open windows, even with bars, attract biting insects. No thank you. The air conditioning is energy inefficient (but works) and the traditional compressor dryer produces a lot of hot air (fine in winter, unacceptable in summer). We've been watching Peltier dryers for over a year but were reluctant to buy them because the reviews were everywhere. There were too many negative reviews for us to feel confident about purchasing. But Hysure had a lot of good reviews, so we bit the bullet. We used the Hysure dehumidifier for about four consecutive days in a tiny bathroom (240 cubic feet) with about 71% relative humidity and about 82 degrees Fahrenheit. Although we collected water in a small bowl, about 100ml per day, the relative humidity never dropped below 68% unless we turned on the air conditioning. Within minutes of turning on the air conditioning, the relative humidity dropped to a healthy 50% range. Health experts recommend indoor relative humidity levels of 40% to 60%. We have contacted the seller. We appreciate that they answered us quickly but essentially repeated what was already on their Revain page (how the machine SHOULD work). Unfortunately, they could not offer us a solution, so we are sending the device back. We will try another Peltier dryer. If that doesn't work, we do without the technology and use our air conditioning again in summer and a classic compressor dryer in winter. We used a Frigidaire dehumidifier for the 'small room' (35 pint capacity) in our guest cabin/bathroom during the winter. It was so effective at keeping the relative humidity around 50% that we didn't use it for more than 20-30 minutes a day. We would have preferred a low power solution, but like many others we have had no luck with Peltier dehumidification technology.

Pros
  • Energy Efficient: Dehumidifier with Peltier thermoelectric technology provides maximum water removal with minimum energy consumption. Automatically turns off when the maximum capacity is reached with the indicator light.
Cons
  • Wrinkled
