Review on ๐Ÿงน CRAFTSMAN CMCVH001C1 Handheld Vacuum: Powerful Red Cleaning Tool by Andrew Woodruff

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very powerful - suitable for cars, stairs, corners etc.

This is a powerful handheld vacuum that I would recommend to anyone who already owns a Craftsman 20V cordless tool or is thinking of getting a new one. It comes with a removable battery and charger. Like many other "brand name" power tool manufacturers, Craftsman also has a growing line of battery-powered hand tools that can use the same batteries and chargers interchangeably. Batteries and chargers are available in different capacities. Batteries are usually quite expensive when bought separately, but this product comes with a battery (albeit a small one) and charger. These batteries are not interchangeable between manufacturers, even if they have the same voltage. If you can manage to limit your additional purchases to Craftsman products, that would be great. Otherwise you will still be confronted with a growing number of different batteries and chargers. (For example, despite my best efforts, I now have battery/charger/tool sets from Bosch and DeWalt, as well as Craftsman.) What I like: - It's very powerful for its size. It has the same suction power as another popular shoulder nozzle I have. - Has a detachable crevice tool for very small spaces. There's no storage space for it other than the tip of the tool itself, but that wasn't a problem because I just put it back on when I'm done if I need to take it off to treat a larger area. The battery is dead and you have other Craftsman 20V batteries on hand and charged (even if they have a different capacity), you can simply swap out the batteries and get on with your work. - If you have (or want to have) more. Craftsman 20V rechargeable batteries (and there are always more), you don't have to buy or keep track of different chargers for each product. If your battery eventually dies (and it will) and you still have this tool, there's no need to throw it away - you can just buy another compatible Craftsman battery. This is unlike most unnamed Chinese products, for which you can never find a replacement battery. Maybe not so good: - Although this is a handy device, the removable and swappable battery adds to the size and weight. In my attached photos you can see how this Craftsman tool compares in size to a Black & Decker tool with a built in battery. Disconnect the battery from the vacuum and place it in the charger, the larger being slightly larger than the smaller ones that usually come with devices like Black & Decker and the like. The main filter cartridge has a snap on outer cap which presumably keeps things already collected from falling back into the filter (I think). This cover is located inside the debris collection area. Mine was loose on arrival and was the source of the rattling. I opened the device several times to reattach it to the main filter and it kept falling off. The last time I did this, I tried "a little more" and it stuck - for now. Just an annoyance so far. Not that many years ago, the Craftsman brand was owned by Sears (remember?) and was an American-made product that usually came with a lifetime warranty. Unfortunately no longer. This product is made in China.
