Cooling, comfort, regulation

I bought them because I thought they could help me when I'm in the garden (in the swamp). The weeds don't stop just because the weather gets unbearably hot—in fact, the weeds, kudzu, and poison ivy seem to be springing up with more enthusiasm than ever, growing several inches even as I watch, enjoying your air-conditioned living room . So this portable fan sits comfortably around your neck. It's adjustable - it can be easily bent so the fans are close to the face (which is important as my neck isn't as thick as a seal's). And you can make one fan bigger than the other so you can cool a certain side of your face more. Unfortunately a bit noisy. It's particularly loud because you're holding it close to your face, and it has three speeds: loud, louder, and louder, which you have to cycle through to turn it off. It's fine when it's hot, but not good for my purposes. As most southern gardeners can attest, uncivilized outdoors is a minefield. You must be on the lookout for dangerous plants, dangerous reptiles and, well, danger. So I'm afraid to wear it on the street and not hear what's going on around me. It's like the sound of a Greyhound bus ride. It's great for the patio and for touring and when the AC (I can barely type that without knocking wood) isn't working. But if you have to pay attention to other noises, the fan is too loud.
