I thought it was because of the box they came in but no, the cups themselves have a strong smell. Smells like perfume or incense. I'm afraid I smell ant or rat poison. I do not recommend them at all! When I opened the box I noticed the smell and assumed since the cups were in bags it was the box and the cups were fine. I made tea in cups. Tastes ok, but the smell...! I went back to the box I had flattened and found it didn't smell at all, confirming the smell was coming from the cups. I feel very uncomfortable drinking from it now without checking the source of the smell.
