After doing lots of research on portable air conditioners and watching HOURS of YouTube videos about Black and Decker and their various models. I bought this. Pros: It's easy to install. I made sure we left the device for more than 24 hours as the instructions said. Bad: Directions are usually not available. I. Trust all the other reviews of other Black and Decker portable models that say they're loud because they're loud, nails rattle and the motor is loud. It rattles and shakes and I can feel the vibration in my metal bed frame (!). The sound of the compressor is unreal. Another reviewer posted pictograms with measurements in decibels and I totally believe him. Worse, because there's no constant fan cycle, when the compressor kicks in to start cooling in a quiet room, it sounds like a New York City subway. Due to the strong vibration of the machine, the ventilation hose detaches from the device, which means that hot air is also thrown into the room with the AC air. The hose can be detached very easily, both from the device itself and from the window sleeve insert. And yes, we installed it correctly. The product we received had no foam or insulation, nor did it have a 'permanent' window sleeve clip as described in the lousy instructions. Fan wise it's supposed to be 3 fan cycles - this unit only blows on one and you never know which one works (low, medium, high - it's always changing) and there's no difference when using a fan. Use the remote control or the touchscreen to change the speed - it just blows at the speed you want and differs from use to use. turn off. The displays on the top of the device are very bright, very neon-like. However, the remote control does not have a backlight. So if you want to use the remote control in the middle of the night, you need to turn on the desk lamp on your mobile phone for lighting. Summary: Pretty sure the device we received is a combination of lousy quality control, poor design, poor workmanship and possibly poor handling during shipping. This is a return.
