I bought this thinking the cat would enjoy looking out the window from the top bunk (and showed no interest in the more common styles ), but it was in the closed lower bunk once I installed it. She loves it so much that we are now wondering if we should buy a second one so she can enjoy it in both of her favorite rooms. She ended up trying to get to the top level and I think she would have liked it if it was stronger (which of course would have made it more expensive). She didn't seem safe upstairs. I've noticed reviews mentioning a bad smell but that wasn't a problem for us. The smell didn't bother us or the cat. Perhaps the problem is due to delays in previous deliveries? Regardless, our experience was pleasant. I would give it 5 stars if it was stronger so the cat could climb on it without feeling like it was giving way underneath. She weighs just over 7 pounds; it supports her weight, but not without a certain suppleness that she finds uncomfortable. Other cats can't do that.
