My daughter is 8 years old, she is very thin but of average height. She usually wears 7/8 shirts. She doesn't usually like turtlenecks (she worries they might feel too tight around her neck), but the neck on this one was fine - it was tight around her head but not at all around her neck. lots of fabric around the neck (in terms of folding) and/or tight around the neck, but it doesn't. In fact, it probably could have been a little "higher" at the neck (although there's enough fabric to fold it up), but I was glad it wasn't too tight. Otherwise she would feel uncomfortable. Sleeve size 8 was perfect for her. The overall length of the shirt fitted her (when she raises her arms, the skin is not visible). We needed a white turtleneck to dress up in her cheerleading uniform. This worked great! Very happy with the landing. However, if your child is of average weight/thickness, it will likely fit them better in the upper body. When your kid grows up I think this will still work. If your child has a little extra flesh (which is perfectly normal. My child sometimes has trouble adjusting because it's a bit like a stick) it will likely be quite tight on the torso and may not work for them. She. But for skinny/small kids I find it perfect, especially when worn under something else. it will probably suit you more in the upper body area.
