My daughter is 8 years old, she is very thin but of average height. She usually wears 7/8 shirts. She doesn't usually like turtlenecks (she worries they might feel too tight around her neck), but the neck on this one was fine - it was tight around her head but not at all around her neck. lots of fabric around the neck (in terms of folding) and/or tight around the neck, but it doesn't. In fact, it probably could have been a little "higher" at the neck (although there's enough fabric to fold it up), but I was glad it wasn't too tight. Otherwise she would feel uncomfortable.
