Thinly coated synthetic lining

I'm moving my 2 year old of cribs for young children. My first priority is comfort. I bought him a super comfy mattress and this is to protect him. I figured plush meant it would be comfy too. It looks like a thick plastic mattress cover covered with a very thin fabric. I mean, it even sounds like a plastic pillow with every movement. This coating actually affects the comfort of the mattress. I'm buying another one from a different brand hoping it will be better.
