Review on πŸ’Ύ 1TB WD Green Desktop SATA 6.0 GB/s 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit by Michael Syph

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent storage disk

Looking at some of the previous reviews, it seems that some people do not understand the meaning of the Green series. It is designed for low performance and does not offer the highest possible speeds. Personally I wouldn't use them as a main drive (I have an SSD but would have used the Black series before) but as drives they work great! I still get consistent transfer speeds, but it's still slower than other Black series drives on the computer (which is to be expected). I've always been a fan of Western Digital. Their drives have always held up well and I generally only swap them out when the current drive's size no longer suits my needs. Well it finally happened to one of my old 1TB drives. It was on my desktop/server and acted as my "movie" for all my ripped DVDs and Blu-rays. They are then streamed to my HTPC downstairs. Well, 1TB didn't make it as Bluray rips are significantly larger than DVD rips and the drive was almost full. When I bought this 4TB had just come out and the prices were still way more than I was willing to spend (I've since bought 2 x 4TB drives to replace other drives). Exploring the Linux GPT partitioning tools has been a little interesting. but still easy. I partitioned the drive, formatted it as ext4, then copied all the old movies to the new drive. Since then the drive has worked great. There is nothing more to say about him. I highly recommend it for drives, but if performance is what you're looking for, check out the Black series.

Pros
  • Understandable even for an old man
Cons
  • Poor set
