I needed thick winter socks for my 5 year old twins (size 13 and size 1 respectively) and ordered a 4-7 year old deer - they were great on first wear. I washed and dried my socks but they still shrunk a lot. When buying clothes for children of the same age, you should choose size 8+ to take this into account. The socks still cover the legs, but now, after taking them off, they only come down to the ankles. Add to that the number of pellets and they look unattractive. The flaking looks worse on lighter colored socks (a lovely purple pair included, so if you prefer gender colors they're not for your boys; we don't care) - these are now great homemade socks, still looking for matching wool socks to wear with boots.
