Review on πŸͺ‘ Enhanced Office Chair Gas Lift Cylinder Pneumatic Shock - 5" Travel - S6111 by Pam Hansen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Success! Despite the lack of manual skills.

My 13 year old Sealy Posturepedic office chair gave out when I sat in it. I raised it, first sitting at the desired height, then slowly but surely lowered it, finally finding myself lower than I wanted. I thought I would have to buy a new chair if I wanted to sit higher. After some research I found an online video showing how to replace a pneumatic cylinder. Then I found this cylinder, and the reviews seemed promising. I decided to give it a try. My experience wasn't as smooth and easy as you see in the video. I tried and tried to get my old cylinder out. It didn't move. I've tried Pull and Knock and WD-40. Bad luck. I ended up dousing it with WD-40 and leaving the chair upside down on the coffee table for two weeks. I couldn't even imagine putting together a chair to give as a gift. I ended up borrowing a pipe wrench from a friend and trying again. I didn't know how to use a pipe wrench. Even after watching online videos. It was like an escape that wasn't going to end well. In the end I decided to give up. Then I decided I should try again. As I tried to manipulate the pipe wrench without being sure it was safe, I suddenly felt a slip. I thought the wrench had come loose but instead found that the old cylinder had popped out. In fact, after all my efforts, I suddenly found myself holding the cylinder without attaching it to the chair. I was shocked. Pop! It wasn't like that. I then googled the lift chair schematics and was able to assemble the chair using a new cylinder (the cylinder I'm considering). I still wasn't sure if I was doing everything right. I am NOT a handyman. ABSOLUTELY NOT. But it turns out it works! I flipped the chair right side up, pushed the lever and the seat went up. When typing, I sit at my preferred height. It wasn't easy, but in the end I was happy to have saved money buying a new chair. And so that you don't have to throw a fully functional office chair in the trash.
