. My cat is messy. It's pure and utter chaos and I love it. So he has to destroy everything. To make sure he doesn't destroy the planet (trust me he would if he could), I always try to keep a SmartCat scratching post handy. He can scratch as much as he wants, tries to talk and wreck, wreck, wreck. During its existence it saved a lot of furniture. The only downside, as there has to be a downside to make this an honest review, is that the actual scratching post cannot be replaced. I wish I could keep the base and just get a new post because they are so well made, but my cat (see paragraph above) will never stop until the scratching part is destroyed. Unfortunately, as an environmentalist, the need to replace all of this irks me. But then I think of all the birds and small creatures I'm saving by getting my cat to scratch them instead of the outside world and I think...well, maybe it evens out? My cat gives 5/5 stars, will keep ruining the perch until there is no perch left at all. (Seriously, this is our second SmartCat scratching post and they really need to scratch A LOT before you need to replace them.)
