Review on LG 27GQ50F B Ultragear Reduction Borderless 165Hz Gaming Monitor - 27GQ50F-B.AUSQ by Jay Fonseca

I bought this for my guest play equipment that my little son also uses. It replaced the 24-inch TN Dell Black Friday Special for $99. 144Hz produces very sharp and impressive motion that is as good if not better than my personal Pixio PX7 monitor. However, the image quality is much worse compared to the main problem, color banding. If you've seen multiple monitors with high refresh rates, you know image quality is everywhere. TN panels are fast and generally inexpensive for what you get, but often there are image quality issues like banding, gamma shift, poor viewing angles, etc. IPS panels usually fix most image quality issues, but cost more and process Movements often worse due to the slower pixel response. It also handles movement very well, but produces a much higher contrast image. But at under $200 for a 24-inch 1080p 144Hz screen, you can't be too picky. Even expensive monitors aren't perfect, and at this price point, you really have to pick your poison. In my case I use it as a guest/kids monitor but the strip really kills it IMHO. I actually ordered a Pixio PX248 Prime to compare and possibly replace this LG. It's $10 less and has the same core specs, but it's an IPS panel. While it's a bit worse on the go, better colors, no banding, and better viewing angles would probably make it a winner in my book. I'll report when I can compare them side by side.
