This order for two straps, one black, one brown, was received in November 2019. These are the first ratchet straps I have ever owned. So far I like them very much. I use them every day and like others I find them quick, easy and convenient. I don't have much luck with regular straps, maybe I'm over-tightening them, but I find surface cracks and soon they don't look good, especially where there are holes. These ratchet straps obviously have no holes, and because you never fold them back to fasten, they still hold up like new. I love how quickly you can pull the lever and it opens. The buckle is light, that's for sure NO. The weight of the buckle tends to pull the strap forward a little when worn loose. But then again, the buckle seems pretty solid and secure. I liked those Chaoren straps so I decided to try Mio Marino which seems to have more strap and buckle options. I have a flat black buckle and flat (non-shiny) strap for weekends, gardening, and whatnot. See photos. I prefer the Chaoren over the Mio Marino, but only because the track the buckle enters is closer to the tip so there is only a small protrusion sticking out of the buckle. personal preference. You can see what I mean in the photo. Otherwise I think they are probably made by the same factory as the mechanics of the clasps are completely identical and the straps are sewn and made the same. Even the gift boxes they came in are very similar. Replacement straps should work with any buckle as they are the same width and thickness. BTW I have 1 and 1/8 widths, these belts are also sold in 1 and 3/8 widths so make sure you order what you want. are they leather I think the underside, I think the finished outer layer is synthetic. I took the part I had cut off (remember you cut it to length yourself, you need heavy scissors, I used metal shears) and lit it and it seemed to me that the (outer) Surface layer melted and smelled of rubber from burning. But then there is some kind of artificial filler between the inner and outer layers. They are both tailored (go long and try first) then the strap slides into the buckle and you release the latch with the teeth holding it. So far they have stayed attached with no issues and if it snaps at the end of the strap I think I can cut it off a bit and snap it back in place. See close-ups. So yeah, I really like the ratchet idea, I liked the Chaoren because the caterpillar is closer to the tip, and otherwise the Chaoren and Mio Marino are almost identical, at least the ones I have. Finally, give me a "useful" click if this helped you. Update Nov 2021: The straps are still holding up well, I wear one to work 5 days a week. I forgot that I once wore my day off in Mio Marino as I jumped in for a swim and it didn't seem to hurt. Once only.
