These units are very good, but they are designed for carpeted floors. I was aware of this and found an additional item on Amazon that prevents touching bare metal on a solid wood floor. It's made of very soft rubber and holds 5 to 10 pounds on each pad. They use 4 pads per base, which is between 20 and 40 pounds. After placing 3M adhesive-backed rubber pads on the bottom, I placed the stand on a wooden stool and my wife held our 27-pound toddler on it. The supports prevented the contact of the metal rod with the thread with the wood. It was 1/16 to 1/8 inch off the ground. So as long as your speakers weigh no more than 27 pounds, you're good to go.
