Review on πŸš— Enhanced Bluetooth Car Kit by Kinivo BTC450 - Hands-Free Adapter with 3.5mm Aux Input, Apt-X Technology by Fort Steffen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Will probably fit cars without built in bluetooth for phone calls but not my 2009 Honda Accord

. Since posting the full review, I've upgraded my rating from 3 to 4 stars. I actually figured out how to use the car bluetooth just for phone calls and I will keep the BTC450 kit because I can use it for Siri which is an important added value. I actually have the option to use the HFL Accord with steering wheel controls to call people I have in the HFL phone book or use Siri through my Kinivo device to make other calls, send text messages, get directions (iPhone Nav with Google Maps or Maps App > 2009 In-Board Navigation), etc. When calling from Kinivo via Siri, I can use the HFL's transfer command to switch to the better in-car microphone. I've upgraded to one star as this unit has given way to cheaper Bluetooth receivers that have other disadvantages such as: no auto power on, no remote mic etc. I also know I had to pay for slightly better sound quality with the visor mounted Jabra Bluetooth speakerphone and I feel this unit is an absolute value. I will update the review again if I have any reliability issues etc. I ordered this because my recently purchased old (2009) Honda Accord only has Bluetooth support for Hands Free Link (HFL) and does not support music streaming or Siri integration with my iPhone. I was hoping to use this for both phone calls and audio streaming. It works great for streaming audio, although it's more expensive than simpler devices that don't have controls and a microphone to place where you like. Unfortunately, I was told by people I called right after installation that the audio quality was poor. Since the iPhone can support both HFL and a Bluetooth audio receiver, I'll probably forego Siri in the car, get a cheaper, smaller Bluetooth receiver, and use HFL for calls with better voice quality. If your car doesn't have Bluetooth call support and you have an AUX input next to the 12V accessory socket where you can hide the charger (e.g. on the center console) then this is probably a good device. One final note, mine appears to come with ground loop sound isolation, which slightly adds about $5 to the cost if you need it. An older card will most likely need this to prevent electrical engine noise (howling) from getting into your AUX input.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • The list will go on. UPDATE
