It's meant to sit just below the natural waist I think but this number varies a lot by waist size for people of different shapes. I need a 30 inch top opening of this garment (I thought but found that 28 inch is better for me as I like it a bit bigger) so I ordered a US size 8 because it says it will has a 30 inch waist. But the top opening is actually 32 inches for this size. I have a 27" waist, 30" just below the waist and 37.5" at the hips. I should have ordered a US size 6 or maybe even a 4, not really sure. Return shipping is expensive so got it I luckily have sewing skills. Basic knowledge is enough to alter this garment or take it to a tailor. I think 4 would be too small for me and 6 is still too much so it's a sizing game and I'd probably alter it anyway .Maybe I could get away with 4 by just moving the inside button.Still a lot less time than sewing from scratch.Note for those who are in between sizes who may want to switch,it has a good seam allowance so a larger one too Can be resized.The seam allowance on what I got was about an inch but as the fabric is very frayed don't get too close to the edge.
