Attention cosplayers!

I bought these masks for a cosplay project. I knew they were paper as the description clearly states. Not my ideal material, but I needed several and plastic mask costs skyrocketed. They were affordable. The description and photos implied that the masks could be colored. NOT CORRECT! As soon as I applied the gesso, the paper started to dissolve. It literally started to melt and peel off. I'm not talking diluted gesso. I'm talking about a bottle of Gesso. The edges of the masks where the straps are attached are very thin and tear easily. There was no way they could have endured an hour of cheating, let alone a full day or weekend. I participate in masquerades and have to submit carefully thought out and detailed designs to the jury. A piece of limp pressed paper presented as a mask just won't do. I should have known better. These masks might work for a school art project because they're CHEAP, but kids will be disappointed if their work disintegrates or falls apart before their eyes before they bring them home. Conclusion: just not. It's not worth the time, money, or heartache. There is no way to make these excuses work for any project. Definitely not for competitive cosplay.
