Seems to have helped my plants but not nearly as effectively as the CO2 system. If you really want to improve your live plants, a CO2 system is your best investment. If you don't have many plants and/or if they require very little maintenance, this might be fine. My biggest criticism of Excel is being very careful with dosing, especially when holding inverts. Many snails, especially mystery snails, seem to be sensitive to the product. The product claims to be safe for inverte, but I dosed exactly the recommended amount but less frequently than stated and my snails were still affected. Monitor your snails for signs of stress during feeding such as swelling, inability to fully close the hatch/legs protruding from the shell, antennae near the snout, and tiptoeing over surfaces.
