I want to start by saying I love my pup and never want to hurt him so I was nervous to use the shock function but the shock of this collar seems more surprising and uncomfortable than painful. I know this because I tested the collar on myself (I wouldn't do anything to my dog that I wouldn't do to myself). I like that the signal level is adjustable so it doesn't have to be stronger than necessary for efficiency. From my self-examination, the shock at the lowest level was enough for me to feel, while at the highest level it caused a leg cramp, but I would describe the sensation as very uncomfortable and not painful. I ended up using a medium setting on my pup because at that strength it's amazing enough to make her stand, but not strong enough to actually hurt or cause distress. I got this because I wanted to teach my pup not to jump. People because I was afraid that she would accidentally harm my two-year-old. I tried offering treats but she didn't seem to associate good behavior with the treat. I tried to scold her and put her in a kennel, but running away from me when I screamed became a game. This training collar made learning clear commands much easier. I was able to teach her to sit down when she heard the beep because she would get a treat. I can get her to stop jumping if I use buzz because she knows shock will follow and then her kennel. Overall, this educational tool made it easier to communicate clearly with my pup.
