Review on πŸ”Š Fosi Audio TDA7498E: Hi-Fi Class D Amplifier for Passive Speakers - 160W x 2 + 24V Power Supply by Michelle Spencer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Incredible amount of power in a tiny box

Let me start by saying that I rarely post Revain reviews. I think I ordered the item, I received it, it does what it promises, that's all. But so far the performance of this little amp has been unexpected. I needed an amplifier to power the speakers in zone 2 as my receiver only provides a line out for zone 2. Zone 2 has two Polk TSi 100 speakers, they're not big, but they're not tiny either. They are 8 ohms and the specs say they should run at 20-100 watts. I've read a lot about possible speaker damage from under powered amps, as well as distortion concerns when you need to maximize an amp's power to drive speakers, so I wanted one that had enough power to drive speakers unnecessarily. To maximize it. All amps list their wattage based on 4 ohm speaker connections, since I have 8 ohms I assumed this amp could only put out 80 watts per channel when actual power is within advertised specs. I hooked it up to my TSi 100 and my CD player (yes I still have one of those in 2018) and started at the lowest volume to see how much I had to turn it up to get decent sound. OMG, at 1/4 turn the speakers got really loud, too loud for anyone to talk to without yelling. I only went so far as to increase it by 1/2 and at that point it was seriously in a range where you would really need hearing protection. So I've come to the conclusion that this tiny amp can easily drive much larger speakers. , it could certainly power anything that could reasonably be called bookshelf speakers, and probably many types of floorstanding speakers as well. not found at a better price. As other reviewers have said, the box is tiny, which is why I was partially surprised by the amount of power it puts out. So if you're looking for a small amp to power a couple of speakers I don't think you can go wrong with this one, especially for the price.
