As the title suggests, this is a functional but imperfect replacement for the Ridgid VF5000 filter. It is approximately 1/2" shorter than the Ridgid filter and has a 1/8" smaller inside diameter (that's 4-1/4", Ridgid 4-3/8", see photo). I ordered both to compare. . While the proprietary filter was almost effortless to install, I actually had to force this device. I have no doubt it will work fine, at least for a while. But it's definitely not as well made, although not much cheaper than the Ridgid filter ($16 vs. $25, or $20 if you snag the discounted filter). Bottom line, if you're like me: the typical Ridgid homeowner doesn't use these filters too often (they're washable and reusable). I would spend a few bucks more to get a VF5000 brand filter and put an end to this.
