For simplicity - works, just doesn't test the SHEILD conductor. xBaseT tester as well as xBase 2. It's not a complex device - it's a 9 volt battery and a series of LEDs to indicate conductivity through the different conductors of the cable, plus a little logic to automatically sequence through the conductors to go so you can test the two far ends of the same wire by one person. Connect one end of the cable to the tester's remote port, the other end of the cable to the remote port, turn on the power, press the auto button and the tester cycles through the various category 5 conductors. Go to remote end and make sure they light up one by one and you can be sure that the cable is assembled correctly. (If they don't light up in the right order, it's wrong, if some don't light up, it's wrong: except for the SHIELD, which never lights up on the console). OR connect both ends of the cable in a loop back to the tester. and he checks it anyway. The shielding indicator never lights up on the remote - neither with my cables nor with the short cable that came with the unit; So I'm assuming it's not designed for lighting. BNC to RJ45 adapters (2x) are included so you can use it in a 10base2 style two-wire network if you still have that old technology installed.
