Not compatible with my new Vizio

I had high hopes for this unit. My goal was to use paired headphones with the device and only hear my Vizio TV through the headphones. I've tried composite (analog) audio, even bought an optical cable and tried it, but it never worked. Headphones paired quickly every time. TV out, not so much. I have tried all cable configurations and couplings. My TV did not recognize the set-top box and the set-top box did not sync to my TV.
