Bought a 14 year old Toyota Avalon with a key a month ago. I went to the dealer and the cost for a new key and key programming was $125 ($60 for the key and $65 for the key cutting and programming, or maybe it was the other way around, I don't remember). I decided to give it a try and when the key arrived I took it to the dealer who confirmed it was the right size and cut the key for only $3. The key then only worked to open the door - without the programming, the car wouldn't start, which I knew. I followed the simple instructions on the website which is on the note that came with the dongle. It really worked! This saved me a whopping $113. For a key that I hope I never have to use, $12 is a much more reasonable price.
