I used it to stow a kayak over my car in my garage. Installation was pretty easy. Note that the instructions say to mount the brackets 2/3 the length of the kayak apart - this is NOT CORRECT. You want to mount more than 1/3 of the length of the kayak. I marked the length at 2/3, thinking they looked too far apart and moved them closer together. I climbed about 5ft for a 10ft kayak and it was even further than I think ideal. When the kayak got wet and I tried to lift it, the straps slipped out. I tied the straps together to keep them in place, but the best solution would be to put the brace closer together. The brake mechanism is a bit fiddly to use. I couldn't lower 2 ends of the kayak at the same time. I only come down by moving the end of the rope almost directly under the gap, holding a rope in each hand, pulling both ropes toward the center of the kayak, and alternately slowly raising one arm at a time until the kayak is lowered. pushed to the limit. The rope that comes with it is of very poor quality. I have raised and lowered my kayak 4 times and noticed significant wear (abrasion was noticeable after the first raise/lower). I replaced the rope with a 1/4 inch Home Depot braided nylon rope and don't see any signs of wear after raising and lowering twice. For the price it works perfectly. I use it to store a 60 lb kayak over my new car. I am NOT worried about it breaking and damaging my car. I deducted one star because of incorrect instructions, bad rope and mediocre lashing hardware.
