I heard they are good for making good bacteria in your aquarium so I bought one. They are so cheap compared to some other filters. They are well suited for aquariums with small juvenile fish, caviar and bettas so that they are not sucked in by the filter. You'll need additional items to make this work, an air pump and an air hose, then you've come to the right place. When you clean it, just clean one sponge and clean the other after a month or a few weeks so you don't exhaust the good bacteria so quickly. To clean, turn off the pump, remove a sponge and rinse in old aquarium water or new water that has been pre-treated with a water conditioner like Prime or something else. Never wash it with tap water as this will kill all good bacteria. Just squeeze a few times under water and you're done.
