Works well but heats up

We have another brand of dehumidifier in our basement but it doesn't have the pumping mechanism like this one. So we bought it for the basement of our warehouse so we could run a line to the sewer. The basement is usually very dry (floor) but noticeably damp in the summer months. In addition, there is our pile of firewood, which we brought in to burn next winter. This machine has worked tirelessly to keep the humidity levels down in our basement. So far it seems to be doing its job well and the pumping mechanism works well. However, there are a few things I need to be aware of: โ€ข The car generates so much heat that the temperature in our basement has risen quite a bit. It also creates more work for itself, as warm air poses more of a challenge to control humidity. โ€ข The pump function does NOT keep the bin dry - it uses the bin as a kind of reservoir and actually only works enough to keep the bin dry. from filling to completion. This causes the water to stagnate, so remember to drain the tank yourself from time to time so you can at least drain the old water and not just leave it sitting for a long time. โ€ข It could be a warm basement, a stack of firewood, or just the Maine summer months, but this apartment feels much longer and much warmer than our primary residence. Our basement is also twice as big! I can't wait to see what this device will do when winter comes and we can set the baseline.

Pros
  • QUIET DESIGN: This dehumidifier is so quiet you can forget about it. The sound pressure level is reduced to 42 dB, quieter than a private country road or a normal conversation at home.
Cons
  • Expandable
