I want to pre-say that I ordered mine used/like new and only paid about $11. I wasn't expecting a firm, supportive mattress (thanks to the other reviewers) but it was perfect for our needs. Our aging minion, Kupi, has shrunk to 17 pounds, so he's fat enough to carry. The top is plush and the lid can be easily removed. It would be easy to add foam or padding to add thickness or stiffness, which at $11 is less tiring than the $20. If your dog or cat is large or needs support, this might not be the best choice, but at the same time, its softness makes it more versatile than a firmer, more structured bed, allowing it to fit into smaller spaces.
