This hub is pretty much what I expected. I bought this to replace an old 4 port hub as I needed more ports and the hub I was using was very unreliable when my MacBook Pro woke up. First for those who are new to the world of USB 3 and the attendant details of a USB drive. like SATA and 5400/7200 RPM etc. I need to let you know what you get from USB hubs, especially USB 3 hubs that are rated for 5Gbps (theoretical) (and theoretical USB 3.1 10 Gbit / s) advertise. Never expect nearly 5 Gb/s with any USB hub, no matter what USB drive or drive you connect to it. You get close to using a USB SSD, but not using a hard drive, even if it's spinning at 7200 RPM, and manufacturers are using all other marketing cues to sell their products. I tested this hub with 2 USB sticks and got what I expected. Only about 100MB/s (0.8Gb/s) read/write with bus-powered USB and just over 125MB/s (1.4Gb/s) with AC-powered USB power. I'm waiting to see what my Samsung 850 EVO USB 3.0 drive performs when I get home and test it (not worth BlackMagic drive speed test which is a good testing program, good enough for USB 3 drives if you want ) to test) This review could have been a five star hotel if it weren't for three "faults". First, the power cord is ridiculously short. If you are at a desk and your UPS or surge protector is on the floor below, it is best to have a short desk, or your desk will need to be adjusted/reconfigured to allow access to the hub ports without moving things. I don't know why the decision was made that this unit only requires a long enough power cord when the outlet is very close, and I would welcome a longer cord (standard on all other powered peripherals I've bought recently have). past), so I wouldn't waste money on one that I would buy myself when it comes time to hook it up to my UPS at home. Second, the GUH326 product page on IOGEAR's website claims that it charges and syncs both iPhones and iPads when connected to USB via Lightning. This applies to the iPhone. This doesn't quite apply to the iPad. The iPad charger supplies 2.1A and this hub supplies up to 1.3A for charging. 1.3A charges the iPad very slowly and only when the screen is off, which isn't a deal breaker, but it's a bit of false advertising on the part of IOGEAR as they point out any caveats about the ability to transfer data and other than charging the fact that the iPad will not charge and transfer while you are using it (only data can be transferred). It's fine if you leave your iPad charging at 1.3A for many hours overnight, but not if you want it to charge during a restore or update process that requires interaction with the device. For what it's worth, I've used it with my iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2. Finally, a bit picky thing. The included rubber base isn't up to the task of keeping the narrow, tall, lightweight plastic hub straight and level without additional support. I'm going to attach it to my desk with Velcro so it doesn't bend under the pressure of some thick, high-quality USB 3 cables like it does now. A flat lay is no better as the hub won't stay level after cables are connected (the "back end" will be pushed/pull). I would have liked a more solid base. I'm not sure if this could be the result of the design team running the show or if their QA tested it with no devices connected. None of the three "flaws" I pointed out will stop me from buying this hub considering performance, aesthetics and price. I bought it knowing what I was going to get. But there is room for improvement and I hope what I've shared helps others learn more about what to buy. This is a good hub with lots of ports (for me) that reliably powers my bus-powered USB stick and allows my mains-powered USB stick to go to sleep/wake up with my MacBook Pro and I've had no technical issues , which I must report after using it for a few days. I'll probably update my review once I get a chance to test it out at home and use it a little longer.
