I bought this laptop in an open box for about $970, definitely not cheap but a steal for this particular laptop. The build quality is top notch, the screen is nice and bright and just feels like carbon fiber. The palm rest is self-healing. After first impressions faded, all problems disappeared. When I got to my car after purchasing the laptop, I opened the lid to make sure everything was fine. I put the laptop back in the box and when I got home I found that the laptop had walked all the way home with the lid on and was so hot I couldn't even touch it without burning it. In fact, it was terribly hot. I placed the case under a room fan to cool down. next problem. After using it for about 20 minutes, I found my screen kept turning off during use! Like turning it off completely, like putting it to sleep. After about 8 hours of stress and troubleshooting and countless hours with Dell Support (to their credit they were very helpful), Dell Support informed me that there was a setting in the Intel graphics settings called "Panel Self-Refresh" that the crashes caused in display mode. , and turn off the display. Problem solved. FURTHER. thermals. Oh THERMAL. They are BAD specifically for the processor. This is a very powerful processor. But at default settings, even opening multiple programs at the same time would cause the CPU to heat up to 100 degrees Celsius, forcing the fans to run at maximum speed (pretty loud), and it would be constantly throttled. I ended up lowering the voltage on my CPU and improving thermal performance with a program called Throttle Stop, but I don't think the average consumer should do that to ensure their laptop doesn't experience throttling in non-existence. The GPU (GTX 1650) remains relatively cool (72 °C) even under high load. There are no complaints. NEXT PROBLEM. Advertisement. There are other versions with IPS panels. I chose the version with the OLED panel. It's light. That's great. This is 4k. It's almost frameless. BUT (another BUT), it has noticeable banding with a completely gray screen at all brightness levels. It's a bit annoying. After doing a lot of research on this issue, I found that this OLED panel (made by Samsung) is used in many other fairly high-end laptops and is a common problem for all of them. A quick Google search for "OLED Banding" confirmed this. It's not just an issue with this laptop, OLED TVs have this issue too, so it looks like I'll just have to put up with this issue. The version with an IPS panel does not suffer from this problem. If you can find this laptop at an affordable price, it certainly has serious value. I wouldn't buy it even close to the retail price. Given the price I got it for ($970), I don't think I'll be returning it. I'm very tech savvy and found a way around the issues I found other than OLED panel strips which I think I'll live with but sorry for people who spent full retail price to have. for this and needs to address the issues identified in my review
