This works with the stem and if you have anything other than a cruiser bike the stems are bulky and in the way so expect that Add foam to the mount to perfect the setup. Glue or stick some styrofoam onto the mount then add a phone (I have a 5c) and it will be amazingly stable and then the phone will not come into direct contact with the stem parts which will quickly knock the phone to death . It's a good quality thick silicone and I've ridden a lot of miles on a road bike, done laps and ridden with bindings on rough wooden planks/tarmac trails. So far there are no problems. Silicone straps on all 4 corners also fit small cell phones well and keep them securely in place.
