It just works for me.

I use this after taking one of my cars to the dealer or mechanic for an oil change. You always overfill the oil pan by at least ½ liter. Now that I've brought the car home and let the engine cool down, I use this puller to set the oil level to the correct level on the dipstick. I simply stick the thin hose into the dipstick tube and the thicker hose into a container (usually an empty clear gallon jug), turn on the pump and voila! The oil level is now at the correct mark on the dipstick.
