The collar was effective as long as I could allow my dog to wear it. I just used the beep and that was enough to stem most of her barking like her last collar did, but this collar was much more responsive and sensitive to her barking which was a big plus. It was easy to use and set up. I didn't use the shock or vibration settings and I was a little surprised that both my dog and I accidentally changed the settings a few times while she was wearing the collar. Luckily it beeps every time and alerts me to the change so I can fix it. Sooo for the negatives and why I had to return. The posts that provide the kicking function are not removable, and even with the rubber covers that they provide and the collar that is not too tight or too long, they caused my dog's neck to develop ulcers. It was really disappointing because I really liked the collar until it gave her problems.
