I use these with a Sandisk Clip Jam MP3 player which has a 5 band equalizer (EQ) for my daily fitness workout. The Edifier P185 headphones have an impressive sound pressure level (SPL) of 112 dB. That means you don't have to blow your ears, but can do something most headphones can't: namely, have enough volume to get very respectable bass response with custom EQ settings by using the lowest EQ band on and then the next one went down a bit to around 80%, the middle one went down a lot to around 25%, the right middle band was around 40% and the highest was 50%. With a volume of around 75% on the slider (a good amount of headroom to avoid clipping the output preamp and no distortion) this brings the full spectrum much closer to real life - close to what you would hear from a good speaker set . - like what I have in my wood shop: a pair of Bose 901s with a high-quality Marantz power amplifier and a 20-band equalizer from the same MP3 player. These headphones give you a nice, clean bass punch without the buzz that ruins the sound like the Bose 901. These P185's have a very nice, clean and accurate response when operated like this. In contrast, my old Sansa Mp3 with the same settings and the same Doobie Bros Midnight Rider song sounded a little fuzzy. So. Conclusion: the use of these headphones in combination with a high-quality player with a built-in and properly adjusted equalizer significantly improves the quality of listening. In contrast, the P190s only have 97 dB SPL. When using them on the same player with the same EQ setting and the same song, I have to be at full volume to get the same comfortable listening level, as the middle EQ band inevitably lowers the overall volume and the overall sound isn't as accurate. clean - which I would call boring for a workout at the gym. Both the P185 and P190 hang comfortably on my ears without the earache associated with in-ear headphones, and I have no problem wanting to fall while on an elliptical. Exercise at 10 miles per hour. I buy 100 packs of headphone foam pads for about $3 with shipping as they allow the headphones to sit comfortably and stay in place well. I paid full price for both models and received no reward for this review.
