My 42 pound 7 year old daughter wore these pants on a recent weekend trip. We had warmer winter weather (over 32 degrees and sunny). She was warm and dry, sat for several hours, sledding and playing in the slightly slushy snow. The pants seemed solid, of good quality, and fit her well. My child is slightly above average but is light weight and has a small waist. The length was perfect, the waist hugged her. Velcro was the loosest thing it could be. I didn't have to tighten them at all. I recommend evaluating when in doubt. We have small ones and they fit her well but on the other hand she is very thin. Pants in the small size usually have to be put on.
