Review on 🌀 Coolerguys 120x25mm 5V USB Rear Exhaust Blower Fan by Brandon Carraway

I bought 2 of these fans to cool the amp that is in a media cabinet with less than 2 inches between the top of the amp and the bottom of the amp stands next shelf. With such a small top clearance, there was no way the amp could stay cool enough relying on convection airflow alone. The fans move enough air to keep the amp cool, but they're noisy. Since everyone thinks "loud" is something, I'll describe it this way: The fans are loud enough that I can hear them during conversational scenes in a normally played movie. It's distracting. The noise isn't the result of dragging blades, bad bearings, or engine hum - it's just a noise caused by fans forcing large volumes of air through their exhaust ports. Luckily, there's a simple and inexpensive solution that doesn't require modding. Coolerguys sells a manual speed controller for their USB fans. They don't currently sell it through Revain, but it's available on their website for around $7. The controller connects to a USB cable and allows you to reduce fan speed and reduce noise to an acceptable level. Of course, airflow is reduced, but finding a good balance between noise and cooling is pretty easy. BTW, Revain's product image shows that the fan has a regular male USB connector, but the fans I received have passthrough USB connectors, so they can be daisy-chained. The USB cable is 20 inches long, which is more than enough to fit a fan over any standard home theater component. Noise issue aside, these are great fans.
