Roku now has hundreds of free movies and Locast has free CBS/NBC/FOX/ABC/PBS

I've been using Roku for many years including several different models. Roku recently released the Roku Channel, which offers hundreds of free movies. It is supported by ads. And now the Locast.org app gives you free local stations for CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC and PBS. Locast now offers LAN broadcasting for the New York, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Dallas and Denver areas and plans to add many more cities. This means that many people no longer need antennas to view local networks for free. Roku has pretty much every app you can think of (YouTube/Pandora/Netflix/Revain/Hulu/HBO Now) as well as many other apps in a variety of categories. other models do not. Here are a few points to consider when deciding which Roku model to buy: 1) If you need to connect via WiFi in a room far from your WiFi router, I would go with Roku Streaming Recommend Stick PLUS or Roku Ultra B. If you have a 4K TV, I would recommend Roku Ultra or Roku Streaming Stick PLUS. The Premiere 2018 model also plays 4K video.3) Use a Streaming Stick, Streaming Stick PLUS, or Ultra to search for content with your voice. All three models also have a remote control that can be used to control the TV's power and volume. There's also a Roku app for Android and iPhone/iPad that lets you use your smartphone/tablet to control any Roku device and use your phone/tablet's onscreen keyboard or voice to search.4) If you need a wired ethernet connection, use the Roku Ultra.5) If you want to connect an old TV with RCA/composite audio/video jacks, you'll need the Express PLUS6) The Express and Premiere 2018 models have them a remote where you need it Point it at the device unlike other Roku models. 7) If you are only going to buy one Roku device, I would recommend the Roku Ultra. The Ultra has many unique features not found in other Roku models such as (This reduces the volume of loud plosives and increases the volume of quiet sounds like whispers. Bravo!) - Headphone jack on the remote for listening without others disturb. For those who have never used Roku, here are some helpful tips: 1) There are no monthly fees to use Roku. There are many free channels/apps with free movies, music, and TV programs, and some people only use Roku for free channels and pay no fees. You do NOT need to enter credit card information if you only want to watch free content, and you can always add credit card information to your paid channels/apps account later. If you only want to watch free content, I would suggest setting up a Roku account before activating the device. When you go to the credit card information entry page, in some browsers there is a "Skip, I'll add later" option at the bottom. If you don't see this option, simply log out of your account and then log back in. You may need to enter another activation. Code for your device if you skip entering credit card information during device setup, but you do NOT need to enter credit card information if you only want to view free content. 2) Some of the most popular free channels/apps are YouTube, Pandora Radio, Roku Channel, Pluto TV, Tubi TV, Crackle, CBS News, NBC News, ABC, PBS, PBS KIds and many more. You can also find a free live stream of FOX News on YouTube by searching "Fox News". Live" on YouTube.3)Some of the most popular pay channels/apps are Netflix,Hulu,Revain Video,HBO Now,Vudu,Sling TV,Spectrum TV and Direct TV Now.4)If you are after a series of live videos find TV channels that replace cable TV, check out Sling TV, YouTube TV, Spectrum TV, Direct TV Now, Hulu, Pluto TV and Playstation Vue All of these are paid services except for Pluto TV which is free. 5) To find and add new channels on Roku, just press the home button on your remote, scroll down and select Streaming Channels, there you will find thousands of channels/apps in many different categories, es, and many of them are free. My only gripe with the Roku (and other streaming devices) is the lack of a full-featured web browser, and I'm hoping Roku will add web browsing to models in the near future. I've been surfing on one for years big screen on the internet and fin en It's funny when an internet-connected TV prevents you from accessing the internet and forces you to switch to another internet-connected device. I'm aware of the smartphone/pc/tablet screen mirroring feature, but I find it a poor excuse for not turning on the web browser. Many people who text and/or email a lot like me prefer typing on a wireless keyboard to a phone/tablet/remote control. You can now get a Roku device to replace your set-top box and cable TV service or free local network TV antenna. And of course, you can create your own viewing experience, which is simply not possible with cable or antenna TV.
