I have a 12 lb pouf that is about 22 inches long and likes to stretch. I thought it would fit given the size of the top platform but alas it looks dainty. I would say this is a good size for a small to medium sized cat. My cat didn't fit in the hammock underneath, nor in the side bar, which I didn't even attach because the whole thing would tip over if she climbed in (I put down a dumbbell to test this - it was unstable). While it looks good and is fairly durable, it's not for a larger cat. I'd advise staying under 8-9 pounds (and not putting that side bar because it's weak).
