The USB outer shell is made of metal and is smooth to the touch. There's also a seal at the neck where the screw cap meets the USB housing, which apparently helps prevent water from entering the USB port. It is under running water with no visible leaks. There were some imperfections on the inside of the screw cap, but these turned out to be superficial. The USB itself seemed to work fine.
