I have both this flatout tool and the Dyson articulating hard floor tool. I wanted to replace the turbine head that came with my Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Canister Vacuum with something slimmer that would fit under furniture and get closer around table legs. FLATOUT is only 1/2 on the edges, 1 inch in the middle, but 1.5 inches on the wheels - still too thick to fit completely under my stove or fridge like I was hoping. I think it would be useful for crawling under a low seat bed or sofa, but it wasn't my primary need. In my opinion this is not the best substitute for a general suction nozzle for wooden floors or other hard surfaces. I found it quite clumsy to use on the floor. The hard floor joint tool, on the other hand, is very suitable for hard floors. It's a lot easier to navigate than the Flatout, but note that it measures 5/8 inches at the edges and 2 inches in the center. So if you have a low bed, you might still need a flatout. If you have rugs or carpeted floors, none of these tools will work. You still need a turbine head.
