I have to say I am happy with my purchase as this item is mainly solid wood with thin plywood for the bottom of the drawers. Being "rustic" and fairly inexpensive, I wasn't expecting much from the finish. I took off a star because it's rough enough to make a grinding noise when you push/pull the drawers in and the plywood bottom of the one smaller drawer had a slight crack in the seam. Due to the design, the drawers tilt when pulled out, but this is not a problem. Otherwise, it's exactly what I wanted/needed for my table. I'm so happy with it that I'll work on it a bit to smooth things out. It's too thin to sand like that, so I'll glue it first and then sand flush. For me it doesn't matter and probably atypical for the product. The grinding noise is like nails on a board to me, so consider it a matter of personal preference. Not sure if I'll just live with it, grind the boxes or just grow or something. I'll probably add some 1/8" thick padding material where the top of the drawer sides meets the top of the drawer opening. This allows you to slide them out without falling off and it's very easy. To be honest. Without that sound I would have given 5 stars.
