I opened up the flat cable and saw that it is individually shielded

I give the flat cable a 5 but with reservations. It arrived in a bag that didn't mention anything about Cat7. No markings, he just called it a patch cord without specifying the type. The more I delve into cat types, the more I begin to understand that the "real" cat 7 doesn't exist yet. I think it's just an agreed future standard that isn't quite implemented yet, but people are still selling. Now that I'm actually using this "cat7" cable for something else, I still had to cut the connectors, which allowed me to verify that each twisted pair was actually individually foil shielded to conform to what I understand category 7 is required ... In addition to the individual shielding of each twisted pair, a third bare "ground" wire is included with each pair. A bit strange, I wasn't expecting this, but it's good for my application as I have 4 individually shielded groups of 3 wires for a total of 12 wires. One thing I noticed that seemed "off" was that all pairs had solid white wire and no matching color wire. So one pair was blue/pure white/unshielded drain, the next pair was green/pure white/unshielded drain, and so on. I've tested the solid whites for continuity and they're different, exactly the same color, which again is just odd but not necessarily a problem. Also, to my untrained amateur eye, the actual metal wire, when stripped, appeared much smaller and less durable than the Category 7 mono-grade cable that also sat in a cutout on my desk. So. Overall I'm giving it 5 stars because I've personally analyzed it and it SEEMS pretty legit with protection and continuity. I'm just a hobbyist cutting cables, so I can't call it an authority on specs.
