Review on Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens - Optimized for Canon EOS SLR Cameras by Doyun Won ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best thing for the money, I'm glad I chose this option.

Sharpness and contrast. At 70mm it’s almost like a fix, at 200-300 it’s blurry, (corrected): it makes no sense to shoot with my copy at 300mm, because somewhere from 220 to 300 parts are not added (on 500D). The contrast is top notch. Working on an open aperture at 70-220, which was a pleasant surprise (the aberrations are minimal). There is no need to stop the aperture to get an acceptable picture. Manufacturing quality. I have not dealt with L-s, but this lens does not look cheap like a kit 18-55 or 50 1.8. There are no backlashes. Everything is perfectly aligned with each other. The retractable pipe deviates from the axis IMHO by the minimum angle that is generally possible with such a design. In no case can not be said that she hangs out. Of course, you need to be careful with it, but the lens is compact when folded and light (relatively). The quality of the plastic is very high. (Fixed): Tube pops out when lens is down, but only when walking. A little bit for every step. Not critical. Focusing. I saw somewhere on the internet speed tests of this lens, and so they measured 0.6 seconds from MDF to infinity. Very similar to that. If you pre-focus closer to the object, then generally almost instantaneous focusing. The sound is very quiet. Only sounds from moving parts are heard, the motor is not audible. Stabilizer. Standing with hands it turns out to shoot at 1/20. From two or three frames, you can choose one with acceptable sharpness, i. E. almost as if shooting with a short shutter speed. If you really need to shoot, then shutter speeds of the order of 1/2 are real at 70mm, a choice from a series. I understand, of course, that the aperture will allow you to freeze the object, but in low light, a hole of 2.8 will help much less than a stabilizer. It makes a little noise (I can compare the volume with how a pencil writes on paper) and a high-frequency whistle somewhere around 15Hz, weak, which is heard only in silence and only next to the camera. Worth your money. The third digit in the serial is 6.

Pros
  • The focusing speed is such that I have little idea of what else you could wish for. Stabilizer. Very sharp (at 70, almost pixel-by-pixel sharpness) at 70-200. Price.
Cons
  • Rotating front lens. Nothing more to complain about.
