Not enough plastic around the double din hole to modify for large units

Secondary head units with 7 inch screens are common but nobody seems to be making a kit for them. right, which leaves you with a modification of the standard double din kit for a slightly larger screen. The standard hole literally needs to be expanded a few millimeters in each direction to accommodate one of these new 7-inch Android head units. Unfortunately, this kit leaves no additional plastic to carve with the Dremel. Cutting out just the top and one side might work, but you'll need to route the stereo to mount it in the center of the modified hole. An alternative is to mount it sunk in a hole (which I did), but modifications to the mounting bracket are difficult and the sunk look isn't exactly factory. In addition, Subaru factory stereo mounts feature threaded bushings for attaching the bottom screws. on both sides. Instead, Metra opted for plastic clips and metal clips. Clamps are designed to mount to the vehicle's factory frame and accept heavy duty self-tapping screws through oversized holes in Metra's plastic kit. Metra's tabs are on the outside of the car's mounting frame, while Subaru's tabs are inside the frame. This clip solution works - as long as you don't drop one of the clips when installing and end up having to disassemble the entire center console to get it out.
