HON Office Chair Repair

I received a Hon Office chair for free a few years ago and it's a great chair. However, last week it slowly began to decline to the lowest position. I thought it was time to buy a new chair. No! So I started researching and found out it was a gas lift cylinder failure so I ordered a replacement as this part was standard on most chairs on the market. After installing a new gas bottle to my dismay the seat still sank to the lowest position. After further troubleshooting, I found that the gas-lift cylinder inserted into the mechanism underneath the chair was damaged, causing the knob that controls the chair's height to rest on the chair's plywood seat base, lowering it. I bought a replacement office chair that has a seat mechanism with 4" x 7" mounting holes-S4264 from Revain, 1/4-20.512" threaded inserts and 1/4-20 3/4" flange screws from Boltdepot-bought . .com After determining the position of the mechanism, I drilled 5/16" pilot holes for the threaded inserts. I then mixed epoxy to the bottom of the chair seat and inserted the gas balloon into the opening of the mechanism. I am happy with the mechanism and glad that I was able to keep this chair! I highly recommend this item.
